Aubais Notre-Dame
A little-known heritage gem
A sober facade, a discreet bell tower, a silhouette steeped in history.
A fragile state... but a promising summary
The church is currently closed to the public due to the worrying state of its framework , noted by an architect from the DRAC. A reopening is planned , financed by a municipal subscription to study the future work.At the heart of a lively parish complex
It belongs to the parish of Vergèze, part of the diocese of Nîmes – Uzès – Alès , in the parish complex of Vauvert. It attracts the attention of local worshippers every year. Not to be confused with the Chapelle Saint-Nazaire!
A short distance away, the Chapelle Saint-Nazaire-de-Marissargues , also called Notre-Dame d'Aubais , is an older, medieval building, often confused. It is a priory from the beginning of the 11th century, built on a Carolingian foundation, surrounded by an exceptional rock cemetery discovered in the early 2000s.
